First professorial appointments in 2026

Prof. dr hab. Anna Mazurkiewicz from the Faculty of History and prof. dr hab. Adam Sokołowski from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography received their professorial appointments from the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

The ceremony, which took place on 7 January 2026 at the Presidential Palace, was the first such event in the new year. A total of 112 professors from all over Poland received nominations, including 45 from classical universities (KRUP).

Prof. dr hab. Anna Mazurkiewicz is the Vice-Dean for Research and International Cooperation at the Faculty of History and the Head of the Department of Contemporary Universal History. Her research focuses on US-Polish relations, the political activities of refugees from Central and Eastern Europe in the US after 1945, and the analysis of the role and significance of political refugees during the Cold War.

Prof. dr hab. Adam Sokołowski, prof. dr hab., at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, is the Head of the Department of Marine Ecosystem Functioning. He is also a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences' Sea Research Committee. In 2022, he coordinated the first oceanic voyage of the research vessel Oceanograf from Gdynia to Cádiz. This voyage was the first such joint research project by scientists from SEA-EU universities.
