Significant salary increases for UG employees!

On Friday, March 15, 2024, an agreement was signed between the Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, and representatives of the three trade unions operating at the University of Gdańsk on salary increases. The proposed amounts for academic teachers are not only higher than the minimums resulting from the law but also introduce a transparent policy for shaping salaries at our university.

The understanding regulating the issue of the salary increase for all employee groups at the University of Gdańsk, which has been announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for several months, structures salaries in the group of research and teaching staff and raises the basic salary of non-teaching staff by 20%.

The new regulations will have an impact in two areas: transparency of salaries and the lack of a gender pay gap. This is another milestone in building a stable policy for the development of UG staff.

‘This is a historic, quantum leap in our salaries, and I am pleased with the compromise reached with the trade unions,’ says Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski. 'The introduced system of the so-called Rector's minima for academic teachers serves to eliminate the pay gap and strengthens the application of the principle of equal pay for work of equal value using pay transparency mechanisms. Let us not forget that by 2026, EU regulations on open and equal remuneration will come into force in Poland and pay transparency will become a legal requirement for every employer. I also hope that with the next salary regulation, we will be able to effectively agree with the unions on a similar to teachers', fairer and pro-quality model of remuneration in the group of non-academic staff,' adds the Rector.

The pay rises for academic staff are composed of three components: the obligatory part (PLN 800 per FTE), the part that equalises salaries in particular groups to the so-called rector's minima (listed in the table below) and the discretionary part (PLN 350 per FTE).
