The University of Gdańsk and the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission have signed an agreement to launch a new Fulbright grant - Distinguished Scholar in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk. The new grant is aimed at professors from the United States with at least seven years’ experience in teaching. From the 2027-28 academic year, the successful candidate will deliver teaching, engage in research, mentor students, and lead workshops or consultations within one of three faculties: Faculty of History, Faculty of Languages, or Faculty of Social Sciences.
The agreement was signed on 4 May 2026 by the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, and the Executive Director of the Polish-U.S.Fulbright Commission, Ewa Czarnojan. The ceremony was also attended by Brian George, Press and Cultural Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, as well as Monika Kruszewska and Michał Goszczyński, representatives of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The Distinguished Scholar in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk scholarship is a further step towards the internationalisation of Polish higher education institutions through educational and cultural exchange and the strengthening of cooperation between Poland and the United States.
Applicants for the Fulbright grant are selected by the Polish-American Fulbright Commission as part of the U.S. Scholar Award programme. The application deadline is 15 September this year.
