Debora Sobieska and Dawid Zając, outstanding students at the University of Gdańsk, have received scholarships for their exceptional contributions to Gdańsk. The ceremony to award the Mayor of Gdańsk’s Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit Scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year took place on 8 April at the New Town Hall.

Daniel Fahrenheit is one of those figures of whom we are very proud in our city, but we are even prouder that this scholarship bearing his name was established over a dozen years ago’ said the Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, as quoted by the gdansk.pl website. ‘For many years, the scholarship served solely to enable young people from Gdańsk to study abroad, but after a while we realised that it is also in our interest here in Gdańsk to support the development of local talent and attract them, so our programme has evolved.’

The Mayor of Gdańsk’s Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit Scholarship Programme offers financial support to those who dream of studying abroad, to outstanding and socially engaged students from Gdańsk, and finally - to young foreign researchers undertaking an internship at one of Gdańsk’s public universities.

The following individuals received a one-off scholarship for their outstanding contributions to Gdańsk:

Debora Sobieska - a student of Accounting and Finance (Master’s degree). As a winner of the Tax Leaders competition, she was able to undertake an internship at the Ministry of Finance. She also fulfils herself artistically and socially in the theatre, taking part in plays and musicals addressing difficult social issues.

And Dawid Zając - a student of international economic relations (Master’s degree), who combines academic activity with social engagement, organising academic events for several hundred people.

Students who have been registered as residents of Gdańsk for at least three years, are enrolled in full-time study and have completed their second year of study are eligible to apply for a one-off scholarship for outstanding contributions to the city of Gdańsk. Winners in this category receive a one-off sum of between 10,000 and 20,000 PLN.

We congratulate the winners and wish them continued success.
